Center Stage provides a variety of theatre education opportunities for children, teens, and young adults. The Scarpas have been running a theatre camp program in Shelton for children in grades three through eight for twenty-five years, and that program continues to be a vital
part of Center Stage Theatre. Currently under the direction of Mia Scarpa, a graduate of Muhlenberg College with a B.A. in Theatre and of Sacred Heart University with an M.S. in Secondary Education, Center Stage Theatre’s Summer Theatre Camp provides children with valuable instruction in acting, singing, and dance. The camp program culminates in a thirty minute production which is presented for friends and family.
Center Stage runs similar classes throughout the year for children in grades three through eight. Classes meet once a week, and typically focus on the music and choreography of one genre of musical theatre or on one specific musical, like The Lion King, for example.
Center Stage also provides hand-on experiences in performing for high school students through its annual Teen Musical Theatre Workshop, under the direction of Gina and Mia Scarpa, as an opportunity for high school and college students as performers in its annual Youth CONNection production each summer.
Center Stage also offers private lessons in voice and performance under teachers Gina and Mia Scarpa. Private voice students present several voice/performance recitals each year.
